About

Support the Nashman Center for Giving Day

Support for the Nashman Center expands access to transformative experiences — enabling more students to participate in service, strengthening community partnerships, and advancing initiatives that promote civic leadership and social responsibility. With your support, the Center can continue to cultivate engaged citizens, foster reciprocal relationships with community organizations, and address pressing social challenges through collaboration and innovation.

On Giving Day, your gift helps sustain and grow programs that connect GW’s knowledge and resources with the broader community, ensuring that students are prepared not only to succeed in their careers but also to contribute meaningfully to society.

Who We Are

The Honey W. Nashman Center is GW’s hub for civic engagement, empowering students, faculty, and community partners to serve, learn, and lead in ways that strengthen communities locally and globally. The Center integrates civic engagement into the university’s educational mission by promoting equity, active citizenship, and meaningful partnerships that address real community needs while enriching teaching and learning.

Through service programs, community-engaged courses, social innovation initiatives, and partnerships across Washington, D.C., the Nashman Center connects GW students with opportunities to tutor local youth, support nonprofits, participate in service days, and engage in public problem-solving. Programs like engageDC, SMARTDC, Alternative Breaks, and community-engaged scholarship help students develop the skills and commitment needed to contribute to the public good while making a tangible impact in the community.

Our Goal and Budget

Our overall fundraising goal is $25,000, which will make it possible for 5 more graduate or undergraduate students to devote their time outside of class to tutoring, mentoring, or helping a D.C. organization to expand its support to those who are furthest from opportunity.

Here is exactly where your gift will go:

  • Sponsor a student social innovation project: $2,500
  • Support transportation and supplies for a course-based service program: $1,000
  • Provide art and school supplies for partner schools or nonprofits: $100
  • Snacks for afterschool programs: $25

Every single donation makes an immediate difference — together, we can support students who are putting theory into practice and building their civic and career skills while partnering with the D.C. community to enhance the quality of life in the community.
