The George Washington University Law School continues to grow and prosper, thanks to the generous financial support of alumni and friends who recognize the value of investing in the future. Gifts to the Law School help ensure its strength by supporting institutional priorities including financial aid, academic programs, facilities, and faculty support. In honor of Giving Day, we ask that you make a contribution to support life-changing experiences and resources that uniquely define a GW Law education. Your generosity today helps support legal professionals who will change the world tomorrow. Their path forward begins with you!
“Thank you for this generous donation that has helped give me the ability to obtain a legal degree. I am the first in my family to go to law school, and I appreciate the opportunity to do so. It has definitely made it possible for me to not worry about money while attending school full-time, which I am extremely thankful for.” Jaylla Brown, Law ’22
Priorities
Law Student Aid
Support for student scholarships ensures that qualified students, regardless of financial resources, can take full advantage of a GW Law education. In these challenging financial times, donor support is crucial for many GW Law students to continue their legal education. Student aid helps reduce the loan burdens of GW Law graduates so that the cost of their education does not limit their ability to make their mark on the world, no matter their area of study or professional path. Please consider a gift to student aid today and support the law professionals of tomorrow.
Law School Dean’s Fund
With Dean Dayna Bowen Matthew in her first year at the helm of GW Law, her success relies heavily on contributions to the Law School Dean’s Fund. Gifts to this fund enable Dean Matthew to enhance student and faculty support, strengthen student placement services, invite renowned guest speakers, promote student networking opportunities, and bolster other Law School programs. Without the support of our donors, many of these opportunities would not be possible. Consider supporting Dean Matthew’s vision by donating to the Law School Dean’s Fund on Giving Day.
National Security Law Program
The National Security Law Program includes LLM Programs for U.S. Foreign Relations Law and Cybersecurity and the Cybersecurity MSL Program. Your donation to the National Security Law Program allows GW to remain at the forefront of this legal field. It will enable our school to continue attracting expert faculty, grow our on-campus National Security Archive, and provide incredible opportunities for students to engage in real-world lawmaking processes.
Environmental and Energy Futures Fund
During the past 50 years, GW Law has been a leader in environmental legal education through our GW Law Environmental and Energy Program. This fund will provide scholarship support to students interested in the practice of environmental or energy law. It will yield funding for innovative programming to allow GW to build on its leadership role in environmental and energy law education. Support the Environmental and Energy Futures Fund today as this program takes on its next 50 years of influence in the field.
Jacob Burns Community Legal Clinics Fund
Dedicated in 1991 to acknowledge the generous support of Jacob Burns (LLB ’24, Hon. LLC ’70), the legal clinics aim to provide real-world legal experiences to GW Law students. With 11 clinical programs, the clinics vary considerably in purpose, duration, requirements, and duties. Working on topics relating to small businesses, health rights, family justice, immigration, and much more, students in these programs are able to provide much-needed services to low-income clients in the District of Columbia. Through your gift today, we will be able to support more students in these opportunities that allow them to grow as professionals and serve the greater community.
The Public Service/Public Interest Fund
The Public Service/Public Interest Fund will be dedicated to supporting GW Law students who are interested in pursuing these areas as their professional practice of law. Examples of fund usage will be non-tuition based support, such as supplementing the travel costs of students who are interviewing for these roles (which a law firm typically covers), or for special projects, such as deferring the out-of-pocket expenses for students doing research on public interest or public service projects.
